The Port Washington Police District announced today that there will be a Crosswalk Safety Event held on Thursday, June 29th as part of their Pedestrian Education, Enforcement, and Traffic Solutions (PEETS) program. The Police District is launching this program as an enforcement and education initiative to help make it safer for pedestrians to cross the street. Funding for the effort comes from the Police Services Grant through the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

The initiative will combine aggressive law enforcement with education and low-cost engineering to get more drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, encourage pedestrians to use crosswalks, increase civility and create a more livable, walkable community.
