Lane Closures Expected on State Route 101
in town of North Hempstead, Nassau County
Motorist should expect lane closures starting next week on State Route 101 (Port Washington Boulevard) in the town of North Hempstead, Nassau County.
Resurfacing operations on Route 101 between State Route 25A (Northern Boulevard) and Astors Lane will commence on Monday, October 29. Crews will begin at Campus Drive and proceed north with work scheduled to take place between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Lane closures may also take place during overnight hours depending on weather conditions. Portable electronic message signs placed in the area will relay additional and updated information regarding closures.
The existing pavement will be milled and replaced with new asphalt. New pavement markings will then be installed.
As with most road projects, work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.
Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone, obey any speed restrictions that may be in place, and the instructions of the flag persons for their safety and the safety of the highway work crew.
Recently, the New York State Department of Transportation unveiled a new public service announcement and social media campaign focused on the importance of respecting flagging personnel. This years work zone safety campaign, Flaggers have families too, is designed to remind motorists that flagging personnel are not attempting to disrupt traffic simply doing their jobs and want to get home safely at the end of each work day.
